Carrey's swaps $ for credibility
Jim Carrey has turned his back on mega-buck movies in favour of low-paying but more credible budget films.
The actor, who once earned around $20million for a film, said he doesn't want to take on blockbuster roles just to keep up with Hollywood's A-list.
"I don't want to pick scripts just to keep me in the status-phere. You have to take the plunge to expose your true self," Carrey told Time.
With his latest film, low-budget horror The Number 23, Carrey is changing his career direction already, moving from slapstick comedy to a thriller about a man consumed with numerology. But he does suspect the film might damage his reputation in 2007.
"Everyone gets to be the big joke for a year. That's this business," he added. "Last year it was Tom Cruise. I could be the next Kathie Lee Gifford [actress attacked for her mothering]."
