Teenage God-botherers. Huge in America. Let's hope they stay there

The Jonas Brothers are a cultural phenomenon in their native America. Marketed to within an inch of their lives by Disney, New Jersey siblings Nick, 15, Joe, 19, and Kevin, 20, are promise-ring-sporting evangelical Christians whose clean-cut rock has sold out Madison Square Gardens three times over. When the Disney Channel made a TV movie based around the band earlier this year, 8.9m American teens and pre-teens tuned in to watch.

So far, so grotesque, and the band's third album – they churn out one every year – contains few surprises. Every track, from the upbeat bubblegum pop-rock of BB Good to the, er, upbeat bubblegum pop-rock of Shelf, sounds like it was written by marketing executives to target The O.C. demographic. Video Girl, a pious condemnation of lascivious female fans who try to pop their precious cherry, is at least unintentionally funny, but unless you are a Bible-bashing, US Midwest-dwelling pubescent girl (and, let's face it, you’re not), Jonas Brothers are probably not for you.

More to try:
Hanson: Middle Of Nowhere
McFly: Wonderland
