Diary of a Swede

All About Me

Name: Svennis Goran Eriksson

Age: "I was born in Torsby in Sweden in 1948. But age is just a number I think. Ask Ulrika! I have tremendous experience of course that stands me in good stead for a job at Real Madrid for many, many Euros after the World Cup. (Phone rings) "Hello? Athole? No, Ask them for another 4m Euros a month."

Height: Sven stands at a strapping 6ft in raised platform shoes, which always come out for visits to Stringfellows when Nancy is busy doing her charity work abroad.

Sex: "Yes, I like it, very much. Let's just say my book of stamps from the er, Swedish Argos store is now full and I will be claiming my free prize shortly after the World Cup."

Lives: Regent's Park mansion, London. "My little piece of Svengland."

Early Career. Sven declined following his father into the local steel mill and instead played for a small second division team in Torsby. But at 28 he retired early with a knee injury, sustained not on the field but during some 'rest and recuperation' at girlfriend Inge's house one wet Wednesday afternoon.

Previous employment: Benfica (League Champions), Roma (Coppa Italia, 1986), Sampdoria (Coppa Italia, 1994), Lazio (Serie A title, 2000). "People say I lack the passion but this is not true. Do I ever throw teacups in the dressing room? No, of course not. It makes a terrible mess. It's only football. Why get so worked up?"
