LEIPZIG - city
Altes Rathaus

– The old city hall is located in the old town market square. This will be the focal point for a lot of the fan events during the FIFA World Cup 2006™. The tower offers some good views over the old town as well as temporary exhibitions.

LEIPZIG - Thomaskirche
Thomaskirche

– Home to the world famous St Thomas’s Boys Choir, the church is over 800 years old, although the present building is dated some time later. The church has had many famous musicians play within its doors, none more so famous than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Sebastian Bach. The church regularly holds classical concerts featuring the world famous choir.

Bach Museum

– A very well stocked museum, paying homage to another of the city’s famous sons, Johann Sebastian Bach.

Cospudener See

– Some 6km south of the City centre lies the former open-cast mine of Cospudener which has been transformed into a huge public beach, complete with sand, marina and restaurants.

Colditz Escape Museum

– Some 46km south of Leipzig is the famous fortress of Colditz, the former Allied prisoner of war camp.

Shopping

If you need to indulge in any retail therapy then the first stop should be the vast underground shopping centre beneath the main railway station. It is home to over 130 shops and restaurants and on the hot summer days, proves to be a real air conditioned oasis. More traditional shops can be found on the roads leading to and from Markt in the old town.
