HANOVER

HANNOVER - city
Maschsee

– Not a single attraction but an area of outstanding beauty that is within a 5 minutes walk from the city centre. The Maschsee is a huge lake that runs all of the way from the new Rathaus down to the Südschnellweg outer ring road – approximately 2 kilometres long. This is the place to come in the summer if you want to hire a boat, try out some waterskiing or jump on the ferry that cruises the perimeter of the lake.

Altes Rathaus

– One of the most stunning buildings in the city centre is the New Town Hall. Constructed between 1911 and 1913 in a classical renaissance style the building sits proudly in front of the Maschpark, a beautiful tree lined lake.

HANNOVER - Neue Rathuas
Neue Rathaus

– One of the most stunning buildings in the city centre is the New Town Hall. Constructed between 1911 and 1913 in a classical renaissance style the building sits proudly in front of the Maschpark, a beautiful tree lined lake.

Leineschloss

– The Leineschloss (Leine Castle) is the federal state parliament of Lower Saxony. It was originally built as the residence of the Kings of Hanover. The Castle dates back to the 12th century when it was first built as a Franziskanerkloster (Franciscan Monastery). The Leine river side of the castle still retains its baroque style.

Shopping

In the city centre, the main street is Georgestrasse that runs from Steintor in the west to Kröpcke in the centre. Along here you will find the usual Karstadt and Kaufhaus as well as some interesting shops unique to Hannover.

The city has a number of good markets that sell everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to locally made wooden toys and games.
