The technique
You may wonder how an off-spin action can generate anti-clockwise movement. Most batsmen do!

Although the wrist still moves in a clockwise direction, the ball comes more from the back of the hand than the fingers, a final downwards snap of the wrist and flick of the third finger doing the work. It helps if you have supple hands like Murali!
Magic Moment
Muttiah Muralitheran snares Hayden, Gillespie and Kasprowicz to bring up 500: 2nd test match, Kandy 2004
Muralitharan became the fastest bowler to reach 500 wickets in Test cricket, in his home town of Kandy during the second Test against Australia. Muralitharan started the match with 496 scalps from 86 matches and grabbed four for 48 from 15 overs with his famous Doosra instrumental in reaching the mark.
The first to go was Matthew Hayden, trapped leg before wicket with a straighter ball before Jason Gillespie was caught at slip off Muralitharan's Doosra. Michael Kasprowicz was then bowled through the gate to bring up Muralitharan's 500.
