Gardener's calendar - November

November

  • Firstly, ensure that your greenhouse is thoroughly protected from frost by checking all seals and vents and repairing, them if necessary. You might even want to insulate it further; ask your garden centre for advice on what to buy to do this.

  • Plant in your (by now well-prepared) beds winter bedding plants like forget-me-nots and wallflowers. You can also begin to plant spring-flowering bulbs like tulips for a colourful display at the start of next year.

  • Focus on the debris and waste that will invariably collect in the garden, frequently raking up leaves and using them to make a good supply of compost for next year.

  • Carry on aerating your lawn with a fork or a rake; this will help stop it from becoming waterlogged. Bring in birdbaths, and so on, before they freeze.

  • You can carry on planting some veg; try garlic.
