Nicole Kidman has just given birth to a baby girl. She weighed in at 6lb 7oz and was born on the morning of Monday 7th July, despite her name!

Her husband, country singer Keith Urban, was by Nicole's side for the birth in Nashville, USA and a spokesman for the couple said "mother and baby are very well". Her parents are reported to have flown over from Australia to welcome their new granddaughter.

Nicole's previous attempts at bearing a child with previous husband Tom Cruise were in vain; she suffered two miscarriages, one of which was a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy. The pair decided to adopt Isabella and Conor - who are now teenagers - as their own.

For this pregnancy Nicole, now 41, took no chances and took a well deserved break from the Hollywood to put her feet up and concentrate on having a healthy pregnancy. She pulled out of film roles and has no plans to accept anything new in the foreseeable future.

After her 11-year marriage to Tom surprisingly ended in 2001 due to "career conflicts", she met her second husband-to-be at an Australian government bash and they were married 18 months later. Keith's obviously smitten with his new wife as he presented her with a $200,000 first edition of Wuthering Heights as her wedding present. Not a bad gift for a woman who can afford pretty much anything!
