Troubleshooting V Stuff Storage

V Stuff - performance update July '09

We'd like to apologise to all our V Stuff customers who may have experienced a few performance related issues since V Stuff was launched. Just to let you know, that we are aware of the problems (mostly around logging in and speed of service) and have a team on the case working hard to get everything fixed as quickly as possible. Rest assured, everything you’ve stored on V Stuff is safe and sound, and we’ll keep tweaking and polishing to get everything working perfectly again.

What if I exceed my backup and storage limit?

V Stuff Storage will warn you that you are getting close to your backup and storage limit. You’ll also be able to see how much space you’ve used and how much you’ve got left in the status bars in My Virgin Media and V Stuff Online.

If you are close to using up your space you have a number of options:

  • change what you have selected to back up and remove some files or folders from your selection, e.g. large files like videos
  • upgrade to one of our higher broadband packages, which has a higher V Stuff allowance
  • purchase a V Stuff Unlimited package for a small monthly fee.

To purchase V Stuff Unlimited or upgrade broadband package please go to My Virgin Media.

I can’t access V Stuff Online with Firefox. What’s the problem?

You may be blocked from accessing your stored files via V Stuff Online if you use a Firefox add-on called AdBlock Plus.

To get around this issue, you need to use Internet Explorer or Safari, or disable the Firefox add-on while you are using V Stuff Online. You can normally do this by going to Tools > Add-ons, then locate AdBlock Plus and click Disable.

What happens if I move to a broadband service with a lower backup and storage allowance than the data I’ve already stored?

We’ll keep your data for you and you can restore or download it any time, but you won’t be able to add any more files until you clear out some space or upgrade your service.

We’ll keep your data for you and you can view, restore or download your files. However, you won’t be able to run real-time V Stuff Backup, upload any files, share files, or use your free prints allowance until you either clear out some unwanted data or upgrade your service.

Does unlimited really mean unlimited?

As you’d expect, we have a fair use policy purely to prevent people from abusing the service to the detriment of other users. This policy is based on the amount of new data transferred to users’ storage area over certain periods of time. In general, if it’s your personal data, there is no limit to the amount you can store.

You can see our Acceptable Use Policy here.

What happens to my data if I leave Virgin Media?

We will keep your data for 90 days from the moment you disconnect, and you can download it any time within that period. However, your new files will not be backed up, and you will not be able to continue using the service to back up or upload files, even if the backup software is installed on your computer.
