What is V Stuff Storage?
V Stuff Storage is a password-protected area online that gives you access, from anywhere, to files you choose to store or back up online. You can view or share selected files with friends, or you can print selected snaps free of charge.
You can use additional storage available in V Stuff Storage to manually upload files from any computer to access them later on.
What’s the difference between V Stuff Backup and V Stuff Storage?
Backup creates an exact copy of stuff selected on your computer. The backup service works using software on your computer, which works in the background. Change or add new files, and if they’re in your selected folders, they are backed up automatically in real-time if your computer is online. Backed up files can also be viewed at V Stuff Storage and you can restore lost or damaged files back to your computer. You can also do lots more with your files.
V Stuff Storage is an area where you can store files that aren’t part of your computer backup, e.g. files from another computer at work, university or library. It’s just like a personal online memory stick - you can put stuff in for safe keeping, and access it from any computer, anywhere, with your username and password. In general, your storage is accessed via a web page in V Stuff Storage. However you can also access your backed up files at V Stuff Storage.
Using V Stuff Storage, you can access any of your stored or backed up files to print your free photos, view files, or share files with friends and family.
How secure is V Stuff Storage?
Your data is safer on our servers than it is on your computer because of the advanced security encryption we use, and the precautions we take.
A lot of people back up their data on external drives, but this could also be destroyed or lost if you were a victim of a burglary, or if there was a fire or a flood in your home. Your files are stored well away from your computer in our secure data centre, where they are regularly backed up and looked after.
Why do I need V Stuff Storage?
First and foremost it means convenience – storing your files on the move, accessing and viewing your backed up files from anywhere, sharing, printing, downloading and editing - everything’s in one place!
You can upload files from any computer to your online storage area, and from V Stuff Storage you can use your stored or backed files to:
- Order your free photo prints
- share photos, documents or videos with your friends and family (although you will not be able to share music files) and even create contacts to make sharing simple
- view documents, create photo slide shows, watch or play music and videos
- view files without having to download them.
It’s like your own safety deposit box online. It allows you to store anything, whether it’s something you keep on your computer, or other files you may have downloaded. You can access them from anywhere - from any PC, at home, at work, or on the move. V Stuff Storage allows you to download and edit documents, view photos, listen to music and watch videos.
How much can I back up?
It depends on the level of service you have, but most Virgin Media broadband customers are entitled to at least 5 GB – this is equivalent to around 1,000 music tracks, 2,000 high resolution digital photos, 8 movies or 400 documents.
Here are some examples of how much stuff you could back up and store:
How do I know how much data I’ve stored?
You can see how much storage space you’ve used in the V Stuff area of My Virgin Media, in the status bar at the top right of V Stuff Storage, and on the top right hand corner of V Stuff Backup program on your computer.
We’ll warn you via a little pop-up message on your computer when you get close to your allowance; you’ll then need to do one of the following:
- delete some stored files
- purchase V Stuff Unlimited for a small monthly fee, which allows you to back up and store an unlimited* amount of data
- upgrade to a higher broadband package, which will give you more speed and more storage space.
Remember that your allowance covers your backed up and stored files, including any files that other members of your household have saved.
* Subject to our Acceptable Use Policy.

What’s the difference between first come first serve and individual limits when sharing my space allocation?
Here’s how it breaks down. You can let any user in your household use the space available in V Stuff Storage on a first come first serve basis, but this means than one member of your household could fill up the entire storage space before anyone else can use it. The other option is to set an allowance for each individual in the house. That way, the allowance can be shared out fairly, and each user will get individual alerts when they get close to their allowance.
Can I use any email address I want for updates and notifications?
Yes – no problem. Select the preferred email address option in the My contact details area of My Virgin Media.
