Why do I need Anti-Virus

The Anti-Virus service gives you protection from over 140,000 known viruses, worms and Trojans by:

  • Automatically scanning your computer memory for infections each time a file is accessed
  • Allowing you to schedule regular, in-depth scans of you computer
  • Allowing you to scan your computer on demand, whenever you think a malicious program may be installed

Using PCguard Anti-Virus

PCguard Anti-Virus protects your computer from online threats like viruses, Trojans and worms. Infected files are simply detected and repaired, or just blocked whilst you work. And because it’s powered by one of the world’s best security providers, Kaspersky, it’s fast and safe to use.

PCguard comes with Anti-Virus already turned 'on' and will pick up any viruses that appear as you use your computer, but you will need to run a full system scan as soon as PCguard is installed to pick up any dormant viruses that may already be residing there.

Automatic updates

To make sure you are constantly protected against new threats, our virus definitions database is continuously updated with the latest virus information. All updates are sent to your computer automatically.

Scanning options

PCguard Anti-Virus offers several options to scan your computer for viruses.

  • Automatic real-time scanning of your system

By choosing the real-time scanning, Anti-Virus runs transparently in the background to protect your computer all the time.

If a virus is found on your system, PCguard Anti-Virus will warn you and remove the virus. Even if you inadvertently access the infected file, PCguard Anti-Virus will stop the virus from executing.

  • Manually scanning your system

The manual scan gives you the opportunity to scan your system whenever you want.

  • Scheduled scans of your system

You can use the scheduled scans to set a scanning routine to scan your system weekly or monthly for viruses.

It is recommended that you perform at least a weekly virus scan of your computer.

  • Scanning emails

PCguard Anti-Virus scans POP3 (e.g. Outlook Express) email attachments to provide additional security to protect your system from viruses, worms and Trojans. When your PCguard Anti-Virus scans an incoming email, it scans the body of the message as well as any attachments.

If a virus is found, the text of the message is replaced by information about the virus and all the attachments are deleted. The original email header (From:, To:, CC:, Subject: ) remains intact.

Virgin Media automatically scan all emails before they arrive at in your inbox for viruses and spam.

Windows Explorer

PCguard Anti-Virus is also integrated with Windows Explorer, so you can right-click files, folders or directories and scan them for viruses whenever you want.
