Setting up Mail for Mac 10.5 (Leopard)

If your email address ends in @virginmedia.com, click here. To set up Mail for Mac OS X 10.5 for your @virgin.net email address, do the following:

  1. Start up Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
  3. From the icons along the top of the screen, select Accounts. The following window opens:



    Note: The example above shows a completed account; the first time you open this screen, there won't be any account information displayed.
  4. Click on the Plus sign in the bottom left corner, as shown above. The following window opens:

  5. Type in your Full Name. This is the name you want people to see in the From column when they receive mail from you.
  6. In the Email Address text box, type in your.name@virgin.net (where your.name is the first part of your email address).
  7. Type in your Virgin Media Password, and click on Continue. The following screen opens:

  8. Set your Account Type to POP.
  9. In the Description text box, type Virgin Media.
  10. In the Incoming Mail Server text box, type in pop.virgin.net.
  11. In the User Name text box, type in your.name@virgin.net (where your.name is the first part of your email address).
  12. Type in your Virgin Media Password, and click on Continue. The following screen opens:

  13. In the Description text box, type Virgin Media.
  14. In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop-down list, type in smtp.virgin.net.
  15. Leave the Use Authentication check box blank (that is with no tick in it).
  16. In the User Name and Password text boxes, type in your email address and password, and click on Continue. A summary screen opens showing the details of your email account. Click on Continue to return to the Accounts window.
  17. Click on the Advanced tab. The following screen displays:

  18. Make sure that the Remove copy from server after receiving a message check box is ticked, as shown above.
  19. Close the window (by clicking on the red circle at the top-left).

That's it! Your email address is set up, and ready for use in Mail for Mac.
