Error 691 – Access Denied

If you get an error message on your Windows PC that says:

691 – Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the domain

...this means your username and password are incorrect. It could be that you’ve accidentally mistyped them, or it could be that your Caps Lock key is on. Either way, follow these steps to get back on track again.

  1. Double-click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop to open your web browser.
  2. In Internet Explorer, click on Tools and select Internet Options.

    The Internet Options window displays.

By the way, the screens shown are Windows XP screens. If you have another version of Windows, the steps described in this section are the same, although the screens will look a bit different.
  3. Click on the Connections tab. The Connections tab contains information and settings about the way that your computer connects to the Internet.

  4. Click on the Settings button.
  5. In the Dial-up Connection Settings window, check that your user name and password is correct (they came with your Welcome pack). Try retyping your password to make sure. Remember that your user name and password are both case sensitive – they must be typed with exactly the correct upper case and lower case combination of letters.

  6. Click on OK, and then click on OK again to exit.

Try again to connect to the Internet.
