Changing the router password

This section explains how to change the router password, This is not the same as changing the password to your wireless network. Go to Changing the wireless network password if you want to make this change.

To change the router password:

  1. Open the router’s web interface by entering http://192.168.0.1 into your web browser’s address box.
  2. Log in to the router using the current user name and current password (this is the user name and password shown on the bottom of the router, unless you changed it during installation).
  3. From the main menu of the web browser interface, under the Maintenance heading, select Set Password. The following window opens:
  4. Type your current password into the Old Password box, then enter your new password in both the Set Password and Repeat New Password boxes. Remember, the new password must be exactly the same as the one you entered in Selfcare.
  5. Here’s a few things to remember about your new password:

It has to be at least 6 characters long.
It has to be no more than 10 characters long.
The first character of the password must be a letter (a-z).
The password can contain letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9), but no symbols. We recommend you use a mixture of letters and numbers for added security (for example, n3wyork12). You may want to have a prompt in mind for your password, to help you remember it - for example, favourite place, place of birth, or pet's name.
The password is case sensitive, so every time you use it, you’ll need to retype it exactly as you enter it here. So, for example, lower case "n" is different to upper case "N".

Make a note of the new password, as our technical support team have no way of finding this out if you forget it.

  6. Click Apply to save your changes.

That’s it! Your router password has been changed.
