I’ve installed the router but I can’t connect

If you've set up the Netgear DG834G modem router but you’re unable to connect, check these few points:

  • Are the Power and Internet lights (and the DSL light, if there is one) lit solid green? If not, go to What do the router lights mean?
  • Do you have more than one telephone number? If so, make sure that you're using the phone line that you have chosen for your broadband connection.
  • Are all the cables and filters plugged in correctly? Make sure that all devices that connect to the same phone line as the router are connected through an ADSL filter. This includes devices connected to other sockets in your house, unless they’re using a different phone number.
  • Have you entered your username and password correctly? When you’re entering your login details, don’t forget that your Virgin Media password is case sensitive, and may contain numbers as well as letters. Also, check that you’re using the right broadband username to connect, which should be in this format: your.name@adsl.virgin.net.
