Checking your wired (Ethernet) setup
If your computer is connected to the router by the yellow Ethernet cable, make sure that your cables are plugged in like this:
- Power cable - make sure that it’s connected securely to the router, and plugged in and switched on at the wall (not shown in the diagram below).
- Ethernet cable – make sure this is securely plugged in to your computer and the router.
- Telephone cable – make sure this is connected securely to the router, and plugged into the ADSL filter.
- ADSL filter – make sure this is plugged into the main telephone socket in your house.

If you still cannot connect, try a reboot by following the steps further down this page.
Checking your wireless setup
If your computer is connected to the router over a wireless connection, make sure that the appropriate cables are plugged in, as follows:
- Power cable - make sure that it’s connected securely to the router, and plugged in and switched on at the wall.
- Telephone cable – make sure this is connected securely to the router, and plugged into the ADSL filter.
- ADSL filter – make sure this is plugged into the main telephone socket in your house.
If you still can’t connect, try rebooting. Here’s how.
Rebooting your hardware
To reboot your broadband equipment:
- Switch off the power to the wireless router (or modem) at the wall, or unplug it if there is no power socket switch.
- Shutdown your computer.
- Wait at least 20-30 seconds.
- Turn on the router (or modem) – but don’t turn on your computer yet! Wait at least two minutes so that the router (or modem) has had time to connect to the server.
- Now turn on your computer.
If you still can’t connect, go to the next step.
