Why do I need Anti-Spyware?

  • Spyware can work secretly on your PC, spy on your internet activity and send your personal data to a third party who could use it to steal your identity and commit fraud
  • Anti-Spyware scans your computer automatically

Using PCguard Anti-Spyware

Our PCguard Anti-Spyware provides an extra level of protection when you’re online. Plus because it’s powered by one of the world’s best security providers, Kaspersky, it’s fast and safe to use. So how does it work? Similar way to Anti-Virus, it scans the memory and drives on your computer for spyware. If it finds it, it deletes it and records it in a log.

PCguard comes with Anti-Spyware already turned 'on' and will pick up any spyware that appears as you use your computer. But you will need to run a full system scan as soon PCguard is installed to pick up any dormant spyware files that may already be hiding on your computer. .

Automatic updates

To make sure you are constantly protected against new threats, our spyware definitions database is continuously updated with the latest spyware information. All updates are sent to your computer via automatic updates system over the Internet.

Scanning options

PCguard Anti-Spyware offers several options to scan your computer for spyware.

  • Automatic spyware protection

By choosing the automatic spyware protection, Anti-Spyware runs transparently in the background to continuously protect your computer.

If spyware is found on your system, PCguard Anti-Spyware will place the infected files into a 'Quarantine'. Once here, the infected files will no longer affect your computer.

You can also set PCguard to delete spyware cookies automatically.

  • Manually scanning your system

The manual scan gives you the opportunity to scan your system any time you want.

  • Scheduled scans of your system

You can use the scheduled scans to set a scanning routine to scan your system for spyware weekly or monthly. By default, a spyware scan is scheduled for every Sunday night at midnight.

It is recommended that you perform at least a weekly scan of your computer.

Anti-Spyware complements your Anti-Virus and Firewall

Using PCguard Firewall and Anti-Virus are positive steps to ensure that your computer is protected.

The firewall protects your system by blocking your ports from being scanned, and stops intruders from accessing your system, while Anti-Virus prevents viruses from infecting your system.

However using Firewall and Anti-Virus do not protect your system from spyware. Spyware can bypass your firewall and Anti-Virus and stay hidden for long periods. So, these three tools are fundamental for a safe internet life.

Similarly, Anti-Spyware will not remove viruses. PCguard Anti-Spyware works in conjunction with PCguard Anti-Virus and PCguard Firewall to provide all around protection from Internet threats.
