ntl:home cable modem lights

There are seven lights on your ntl:home cable modem; these are PWR, USB, ENET, U/S, D/S, SYNC, and RDY. Check each of the lights in turn to make sure it does not indicate a problem.

PWR

The PWR light should stay lit to indicate power to your ntl:home cable modem.

If the PWR light doesn’t light up, it is likely that an in-built safety feature that prevents the device from overheating has been activated. To reset this feature, remove the cable modem’s power supply from the electrical socket. Leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, then reconnect it to the electrical supply.

If this fails to light up the PWR light, try plugging it into a different electrical socket. If the PWR light still fails to illuminate a fault may have developed with the cable modem. Contact Virgin Media technical support who’ll help you get to the bottom of it with some more tests.

USB and ENET

The USB and ENET lights indicate a connection between the cable modem and your computer. If you’re using an Ethernet lead to connect the cable modem to your computer, the ENET light should be lit. If you’re using a USB lead to connect the cable modem to your computer, the USB light should be lit.

If USB or ENET is not lit, it is not possible to pass data to and from your computer - make sure that the lead connecting your cable modem to your computer is connected and secure.

U/S

The U/S light flashes to indicate when data is being sent (upstream) from your computer.

D/S

The D/S light flashes to indicate when data is being received (downstream) to your computer.

SYNC

The SYNC light stays solid when the cable modem is synchronised with the Virgin Media servers.

RDY

The RDY light stays lit once the cable modem has established a connection to the Internet, and is ready to use.

If the RDY light fails to stay lit, it is not communicating with the network correctly. Call Virgin Media technical support who will help you solve the problem with some more tests.
