About Broadband – what to expect

Virgin Broadband delivers the fastest possible broadband connection speed at the time you are connected, “up to” the maximum for your broadband package.

However, there are some things that may affect your speed:

  • Number of people online at the same time – you may notice that your speed varies slightly depending on what time of day you’re using the Internet, This can be caused by a number of factors, including how many people are trying to surf at the same time as you.
  • Speed of the site you’re visiting – if the server on the site you’re visiting is slower than Virgin Media’s server, you may find you’re not able to open pages as quickly. A good way to explain this is to think of the Internet as a chain, or a series of links between your computer and the website that you want to access. The speed at which you can access that website depends on the speed of every link within that chain, and your connection will only ever be as fast as the slowest link in the chain.
  • Setup of your computer – check that your computer is ready for broadband by clicking on Minimum system requirements.
